The Priority Inbox serves as your own personal E-Mail secretary – It decides what kind of priority to assign to each E-mail ad then brings the important email to your attention while buring things its learned is not as important (to you). To try out the Beta version of the service, all you need to do is click the Priority Inbox button at the top right after signing in your Gmail account. Granted the service is still being rolled out slowing to all GMAIL users so if you don’t have the new Priority Inbox, you might need to wait a few days to see it. Fortunately when I logged in, I HAD IT so that means I can share it with all you groovyReaders!
How does it work?
The service categorizes E-mails into important, less important, and starred. Google automatically predicts which E-mails are more important to you based on which you read more often and which you reply to. The service actually works surprisingly well. I was amazed when Google really did bring out the most important E-mail for me at the top of the list.
The service also has a variety of different options and settings too. What I found most interesting is that you can actually override the spam filter and set Gmail to look for important E-mails even in the filtered mail.
The service works really easily and if Google makes a mistake you can even organize your Priority Inbox by yourself.
So go ahead and tell us what you think of think of the new Priority Inbox in Gmail and stay with us for more Google News and updates. Here’s a video from Google which reviews the features and process as well.

Interesting feature. But do you have to go through your entire inbox after selecting the new option?

I have yet to actually get the feature installed in any of my GMAIL accounts but from what I’m reading it will go back through you inbox and sent items to determine what is or is not important / a priority for you. So… to answer your question it should be retroactive.

I checked my account this morning after reading your article and it’s working for me lol. Sucka!
But yeah, it already knew the crap from the gold. No need to go through and rank stuff. Some email however it was wrong on but only a few.

One thing to point out on this article is Google is only about 2 years behind Microsoft on the “Priority” idea…

Granted, the GMAIL implementation appears to be hands down better however I don’t think Microsoft ever really put any DEV time into it. Another miss by MSFT.

Nuts, I didn’t get this feature yet either. Whenever I don’t get a new Gmail function early, I feel like there is something wrong with me. It was months before I got a Google Voice invite and when I finally got one, I felt like I was the last one picked for the kickball team. I wish there was a way to prove to Google that I’m worthy…

Well don’t feel to self-conscious Jack. This morning I didn’t have Priority Inbox on ANY of my accounts and just 5 minutes ago it looks like it was finally added to both my Google Apps account AND my personal GMAIL account…. That only took what? 4 days?
