How to Enable or Disable Fast Charging on Android

If you don’t have all day to wait for your phone to charge, phone makes are making it easier. Just ensure to enable Fast Charging on Android.

The fast charging feature is included on modern iPhones and Android devices. As the name implies, the technology allows you to charge your phone faster. However, you may need to enable or disable fast charging on Android for various reasons.

It has become an increasingly popular feature on modern phones and tablets. The technology allows devices to charge at a faster rate than traditional methods. For example, you can get a full charge in 30 minutes or less.

You need the proper charger and the fast charging feature enabled to utilize the capability. In this guide, we’ll show you how to use it.

What is Fast Charging?

Fast charging can also be called Quick Charge, Super Fast, or Warp Charging. And most modern Android devices have built-in fast charging technology. In addition to using a compatible power adapter and cord, fast charging is also offered with compatible wireless chargers.

And on the Apple side, fast charging has been included with iPhone 8 and above. So, like iPhone, you need the appropriate power adapter (18 watts or above) and USB-C to Lightning cable to fast charge an iPhone.

Samsung began including fast charging capabilities in Galaxy devices several years ago. So, if you have a modern Android phone, the compatible fast charging power adapter and cable should be included in the box.

And your phone may natively support fast charging. For example, a OnePlus includes what the company calls “Warp Charging,” it works by default to quickly charge your phone with the included charger and USB-C cable. On our test phone (an older OnePlus model), it can’t be disabled and is turned on by default.

Unfortunately, if you have an older device that doesn’t include fast charging or don’t have a compatible charger, it will still take a long time to charge the battery. So, for example, if you plug your phone into a USB port on your PC, it won’t have fast charging capability. Still, once you experience fast charging, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Note: In this example, we’re using a Samsung Galaxy phone. While the steps vary between Android devices, the following steps will provide an idea of what to look for on your handset.

To turn fast charging on or off on Android:

1. Tap the Settings icon from your handset’s home screen.
2. Swipe down the settings options and tap Battery and device care from the menu.
3. Tap the Battery option at the top of the list.
4. Swipe down and tap the More battery settings button.
5. Toggle the Fast charging switch on or off under the More battery settings section.

Once you have fast or super fast (on some models) charging enabled, connect your phone to the charger to get your phone charged more quickly. Or, if you are using wireless charging, place your device on a supported charger.

A notification will briefly appear, letting you know the phone or tablet is now charging.

It’s also important to note that not all phones support 45W charging. Still, your device will automatically select the best-supported charging speed when plugged into a higher-rated charger.

Get Your Phone Get Through the Day

The fast charging feature on Android and other phones is helpful in many situations. For example, even if you don’t want a full charge, you can plug your phone in for a few minutes to allow the battery to get enough juice to get you through your day.

Of course, there are other ways to manage your Android phone that you may not be aware of. For example, you can use zip files on Android or learn about fixing an Android hotspot that keeps turning off.

Also, if you don’t want the screen on your phone to go blank, you can keep the screen on during calls on Android. If you accidentally delete contacts, you can restore contacts on Android. And if your phone is performing slowly, you can clear the Android cache to make it faster.
