How to Fix Spotify Blend Not Updating

Spotify Blend automatically creates new playlists based on your listening habits. If Spotify Blend isn’t updating, follow this guide to fix the problem.

It’s fair to say that Spotify has completely changed how many of us consume music. Instead of paying for an album with ten tracks on it, you can now listen to millions of tracks completely for free—if you’re willing to put up with ads. It’s made accessing music easier than ever. Over the years, Spotify has continued to add great new features, one of which is Spotify Blend.

Spotify Blend allows you to automatically create a playlist with other Spotify users that selects songs based on your shared listening histories. The playlist is even supposed to update on a daily basis, so you always have a new mix of music to check out.

Sometimes, however, you may find that your playlist is the same from one day to the next. If this is the case, then learn how to fix Spotify Blend not updating below.

Use Spotify More

If Spotify Blend isn’t updating, it may be due to a technical issue, and we’ll take a look at how to fix those below. But the problem may not be technical at all.

A Spotify Blend is created by looking at your listening history and comparing it to the listening histories of other people in the Blend, and then creating a mix from those songs. If you haven’t listened to many songs, however, then Spotify only has a small pool to choose from. This may lead to the playlist looking the same from day to day.

If you’re new to Spotify or haven’t listened to much music on the service, then this may be the cause of the issue. The more music you listen to, the more artists you follow, and the more songs you like, the easier it is for Spotify to create new playlists each day.

Check Your Internet Connection

One of the first things you should check if your Spotify Blend isn’t updating is your internet connection. You can use Spotify offline, but your Spotify Blend requires an internet connection to update. If you’re not connected to the internet, Spotify won’t be able to send you your latest Blend.

A quick way to check your connection is to open a browser and perform a web search. If you see results, the internet connection is fine, but if your browser is unable to perform the web search, then you know that your internet connection is the issue.

Check if the Spotify Server is Down

If your internet connection is fine, then the problem may be at Spotify’s end. If Spotify’s servers are down, this could be the reason that your Spotify Blend isn’t updating.

You can use a website such as DownDetector to see if the Spotify servers are down. The sites let you know if other people are also having the same issues.

To check Spotify on DownDetector:

1. Navigate to the DownDetector website in a browser.
2. Type Spotify into the search field.
   
3. Check the results to see if there is a potential difficulty with the Spotify servers.
   
4. If an issue is found, you’ll need to wait for the Spotify servers to be back up again before your Spotify Blend will update.

Update Spotify

Another possible reason that your Spotify Blend isn’t updating is that your app is out of date. You can try updating the app to see if it fixes the problem.

To update your Spotify app:

1. Open the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Search for Spotify and tap on the app.
3. If there is an Update button next to the app, tap it to update Spotify.
4. If there is no Update button, your app is up-to-date.

Sign Out of Your Spotify Account

If you want to try to force your Spotify Blend to update, you can try signing out of your account and then signing back in again. This may be enough to fix your issue.

To sign out of Spotify:

1. Open the Spotify app.
2. Tap the Settings icon.
   
3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and tap Log out.
   
4. Tap Log Out again to confirm.
   
5. Log back in again and see if your Spotify Blend has been updated.

Clear the Spotify Cache

Like many apps, Spotify stores some information on your phone so that you don’t need to download everything over the internet each time. This can help Spotify to run faster, and also reduce how much data you go through when using Spotify. One of the things that is often stored in the Spotify cache is playlists, so clearing the cache may be the nudge that is needed to get your Spotify Blend to update properly.

To clear the Spotify cache:

1. Open Spotify.
2. Tap the Settings icon.
   
3. On Android, scroll down to the Storage section.
4. On iOS, tap Storage.
   
5. Tap Delete Cache on Android or Clear Cache on iOS.
   
6. Confirm your decision and your cache will be deleted.
7. Try your Spotify Blend again to see if it updates.

Restart Your Device if Spotify Blend’s Not Updating

If in doubt, turn it off and on again; the mantra of IT departments around the world. And even with a smartphone, it’s always worth a try. Restarting your phone may cause your Spotify Blend to update the next time that you open Spotify. Power down your phone, leave it for a few seconds, then power it up again. Try Spotify Blend again to see if it has been updated.

Turn Off Your VPN

Spotify has different licensing deals in different countries around the world. The Spotify library in one country may be significantly different from the Spotify library in another, and in some countries, Spotify isn’t available at all.

Using a virtual private network (VPN) allows you to make it appear that you’re located in another country. You can be browsing in the US but your phone will look like it’s located in the UK. This can often help to get past geolocation restrictions.

However, if you’re a Premium member, Spotify restricts your library to your location based on the currency that you use to pay. If you’re paying in US dollars from a US bank account, you can still use a VPN to pretend you’re in the UK, but Spotify won’t let you access the UK library. In fact, using a VPN may cause issues that stop your Spotify Blend from updating.

If you’re using a VPN, try turning it off and seeing if your Spotify Blend updates.
