Google Dashboard Answers: What Does Google Store In My Account?

One of the most controversial topics surrounding Google has always been privacy and transparency.  Google collects extravagant amounts of information and data relative to all of its products.  This week Google has taken privacy concerns to heart and launched the all-new Dashboard.

The dashboard gives you all of your Google account data and history in one place.  Anything from Google history of searches to Youtube history of videos watched, all of it is now easily available to you as a user.  Regardless, even now that Google is willing to show you what they are collecting they still are not showing how they use the data that they harvest.  Upon further investigation, Dashboard’s information is still very modest and doesn’t show you all of the information that Google really is storing.  Many people will find this tool useless as many are not concerned by privacy (which is proven by a large amount of Facebook users).  On the other hand for Privacy Concerned users this will not even be enough to us their appetite.  There is still a lot of data Google collects about us that they aren’t willing to share, even with the users they are collecting it from.  That being said, Google is still doing more to support transparency than other search engines on the web, as they put it:

The scale and level of detail of the Dashboard is unprecedented, and we’re delighted to be the first Internet company to offer this — and we hope it will become the standard.
