How to Turn Off Do Not Disturb in Google Maps on Android
When using Google Maps, it automatically drops into Do not Disturb mode on Android but you can turn the feature off in Google Maps.
Your Android phone will enable the Do Not Disturb option by default when you begin using the map to travel to a location. The purpose of this behavior is to prevent you from being distracted by app and system notifications while being directed by Google Maps. The problem, however, is you could miss other important notifications. Luckily, you can disable Do Not Disturb to ensure you receive notifications and phone calls, and we’ll show you how to do it in this guide.
How to Turn Off Do Not Disturb in Google Maps
Before turning off the Do Not Disturb feature in Google Maps, note that it can lead to potential problems. Turning off the feature can lead to distracted driving. You may end up focusing on the app or message notification instead of listening to the driving instructions and make a wrong turn or temporarily get lost.
There are several ways to turn off Do Not Disturb on Google Maps. For example, you can do it temporarily by toggling off the feature in quick settings. Or you can dig into Google Maps settings for a more permanent solution.
- While using Google Maps, swipe down from the top of the screen to display the quick settings menu.
- Tap to toggle off the Do Not Disturb button.
- If you don’t see the button, you may need to swipe left or right on the settings screen to discover it. Alternatively, you can add it by tapping the three-dot menu button and selecting the Edit buttons option.
- Long-press the Do Not Disturb button and drag it to the location on the quick settings menu where you want it.
Turn Off Do Not Disturb on Google Maps Permanently
The temporary option to turn off Do Not Disturb on Google Maps works when needed. However, you might want more of a permanent solution, which you can achieve using the following steps.
- Tap your profile icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select Settings from the menu that appears.
- Swipe down the screen and tap Navigation settings from the menu.
- Tap Google Assistant settings from the Navigation settings menu.
- Toggle the Driving Mode switch to the Off position to deactivate it — the toggle switch will have a minus symbol.
Once you follow the steps, your Android phone will no longer automatically enter Do not Disturb mode when Google Maps identifies you’re in a moving vehicle.
Note that when you deactivate Driving Mode, it removes all Google Assistant functionality while using Google Maps.

You might prefer to get app and system notifications, messages, and phone calls while using Google Maps on your Android device. In that case, there are a couple of ways you can disable Do Not Disturb – either temporarily or using the permanent option in Google Maps settings. While it’s important not to be distracted while traveling to your destinations, there is precedent for disabling Do Not Disturb. this is ridiculous. Bit like every 2nd day my vehicle screen on dash in my Captiva advises to keep looking when driving and you then have to reach over and say ok….. another distraction. I was trying to find a hospital the other day and do not disturb was on even though i followed exactly the settings to disable as above in your advice. I got an anxiety attack, I suffer Angina.
