How to Type Strikethrough Text on Discord
There are instances where you may want to emphasize certain unneeded text but don’t want to delete it completely. In those situations, you can type strikethrough text on Discord.
Strikethrough allows you to cancel parts of your message while still showing them in the channel or Direct Message (DM). The strikethrough option displays the text you type with a line through it. Strikethrough text is easy to add to your existing text and can be done on Discord’s desktop, web, and mobile versions.
It’s easiest to use strikethrough formatting after typing text in Discord by adding two tilde special characters before and after the text. We’ll show you how to do it in this guide.
How to Type Strikethrough Text on Discord on Desktop
You can type strikethrough text in Discord on the desktop app or the web version. The process is identical on both platforms, and we’ll show you how to do it.
- Launch the Discord desktop app or web version and sign in if you aren’t already.
- Start composing a post or DM on the app and place two tilde characters before and after the text you want to strikethrough.
- You will see the strikethrough text in the message preview, which will display likewise after you submit it.
- So, in the following example, we typed the following to strikethrough the “Strikethrough” text:
~~Strikethrough~~
- Of course, you can add strikethrough to any text you want, including complete sentences, every other word, or specific words within a sentence or paragraph.
- If you don’t want to use a tilde all the time, you can use the context menu to add strikethrough formatting highlighted text. Type your text, highlight it, and select the Strikethrough option from the context menu that appears.
It’s also important to mention that you can use the menu to bold, italicize, add quote text, and more.
Type Strikethrough Text on Discord on Mobile
If you use Discord from the mobile app on your iPhone or Android device, there’s one way to type strikethrough text. This includes adding two tilde symbols to the beginning and end of the text you want to add strikethrough text.
- Launch the Discord app on your phone or tablet.
- Type in the message you want to send and type two tilde symbols before and after the content you want to include as strikethrough text. So, in our example, we typed the following:
Typing ~~StrikeThrough~~ on mobile
- Unlike the desktop or web version, the strikethrough text will only appear after you send the message. The strikethrough text will preview in the message field on the desktop and web versions.
Edit Message on Discord
- Luckily, if you don’t like how the strikethrough text turns out, you can edit it.
- Long-press the message you don’t like the strikethrough and select Edit Message from the menu that appears.
- Delete the tilde symbols to remove strikethrough text in the message, edit it further if needed, and send it.
Typing Strikethrough Text on Discord
Adding strikethrough text is straightforward whether you use Discord on your computer or mobile device. Doing it on the desktop is easier since you can use the markdown context menu if you want. It also previews its appearance, which the mobile version doesn’t.
Still, adding strikethrough text on the mobile version of Discord only takes a couple of taps of the tilde special character via the onscreen keyboard.
