Google Drive Renamed to Google One with New Storage Plans
Google is revamping its Google Drive cloud storage service to include more space, pricing tiers, and a new name.
Google today announced it is revamping its cloud storage and renaming Google Drive to Google One. In addition to a new name, there are new features and pricing plans. It will also add more versatility for those who opt for the basic free account with 15 GB of storage. But if you’re someone who needs more, Google One provides flexibility with new and different pricing tiers.
Google One Cloud Storage
Plans for the new Google One storage start at $1.99 per month for 100 GB of storage, $2.99 per month for 200 GB, and $9.99 per month for 2 TB of space which is $10 cheaper than the current offering. The company also offers plans of up to 30 TB of space, but those higher tiers won’t see any changes in price. It’s also worth noting that there won’t be any changes for subscribers to G Suite business accounts.
Each plan is sharable with up to five family members who will each have their own private storage space on the cloud drive. It will also include “on-tap” access to live customer support to help customers with its products like Google Docs. Customers of Google One will also see extras from other Google products like credits toward items in the Google Play store and other deals with select partners. Google notes that this is just the beginning and more features and benefits will be added over time.
In comparison, Microsoft currently offers an Office 365 Home subscription for $99 per year and provides 1 TB of storage per user account and 60 minutes of Skype calls per month. Of course, it also includes the popular apps from the Office suite like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. But unlike Google, it doesn’t include any storage options over 1 TB of storage.
The ramped Google One isn’t available yet but will be rolled out over the coming months. The upgrade will arrive first to customers in the U.S. who already pay for additional storage. And, if you already subscribe, you don’t need to do anything, your account will be updated automatically. If you would like to be notified when it becomes available, you can sign up for an email alert from Google.
