How to Hide the New Shortcuts Section on the Roku Home Screen
Roku OS 9.2 is now rolling out to streaming devices and TVs. It includes a new “Shortcuts” section on the home screen. But if you’d rather reserve more space for channels, you can hide it.
Roku has been rolling out a new version of its operating system to its streaming devices and Roku-powered smart TVs. Roku OS 9.2 includes some cool new features, including Roku Zones for discovering movies and shows from different genres, an updated 4K entertainment section, and improved Roku Voice features.
Another new feature in this update is the shortcuts section (shown below). It includes shortcut tiles for popular actions. It is meant to make it easier to perform popular actions like adding channels, set a sleep timer, or powering off the TV. And Roku says more shortcuts will be added over time.
Press up on your Remote on the home screen to see the new shortcuts section on Roku OS 9.2 and higher.
But if you don’t need the shortcuts and would rather use the space for channels, you can hide the new section. Here’s how.
Hide Shortcuts Section on Roku Home Screen
To hide the new shortcuts section, launch your Roku and head to Settings > Home Screen.
Then scroll down and select the “Shortcuts” from the menu and check Hide. Note that you can also hide the Featured Free and Movie Store and TV Store sections from the home screen.
If you don’s see the new section, your TV or device isn’t running Roku OS 9.2 yet. To see which version you’re device running, head to Settings > System > About. Or, to manually check for the update, head to Settings > System > System Update > Check Now. If an update is available, keep in mind your device or TV will automatically restart to complete the process.
If you have many channels installed on your Roku, you might want to tidy things up. This allows you to do just that if you find no use for the new shortcuts section. If you find you might want it in the future, you can go back in and turn it on.
