How to Disable Reddit Notifications

Reddit is an excellent platform for finding out about any topic imaginable. You can research subjects, join groups, and post your thoughts in discussions. However, if you follow several topics and are a member of many communities, you may want to disable Reddit notifications.

With fewer notifications, you have room for the things that matter. Sure, you can be in a discussion thread about your favorite TV show, but do you need notifications each time a user comments on the post?

In addition, it’s a bit annoying because as you use your phone for Reddit posts, a message often appears wanting you to enable notifications. You’ll probably accidentally turn on notifications when that message appears.

The good news is that you can turn off notifications from your phone or the web version on your computer.

Turn Off Reddit Notifications on Mobile

If you enabled notifications from Reddit when first setting up the app, you can still turn them off for your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. First, we’ll show you how to disable Reddit notifications on your iPhone.

To Turn Off Reddit Notifications on Your iPhone

1. Launch the Reddit app on your mobile device.
2. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Tap Settings at the bottom of the menu that appears
4. Select your username under the Account Settings section of the menu at the top.
5. Tap the Manage notifications option that appears on the menu.
6. Swipe through the items and toggle off the notifications you no longer want to receive.
7. The notifications you toggle off will no longer appear on your phone.

Disable All Reddit Notifications on Android

If you prefer not to see any notifications, you can turn them off on your Android device via Settings using the following steps.

1. Swipe down on the home screen and tap Settings (gear icon).
2. Scroll down the screen and tap the Apps option from the menu.
3. Swipe down the screen and tap Reddit. It’s important to note that you may need to select Manage apps first, depending on your phone.
4. On the App info screen, tap the Notifications option.
5. Toggle off the Allow Notifications switch to completely block them. Or, you can choose different notification types. For example, you can make them silent and display them on your lock screen.

Disable Reddit Notifications on Your iPhone

Disabling all Reddit notifications on your iPhone is straightforward using the phone’s internal Settings app.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Swipe down the screen and select the Notifications option from the menu.
3. Swipe down the screen and tap the Reddit app from the list.
4. Toggle off the Allow Notifications switch to disable notifications entirely or manage how Reddit notifications appear on your iPhone.
5. Now, you will no longer receive notifications from Reddit. When you block all notifications, the setting blocks all notifications in the app, including any changes you made in-app.

Disable Reddit Notifications on the Desktop

You might also want to disable notifications on the web version of Reddit using the following steps.

1. Launch a browser on your desktop, head to Reddit, and sign into your account.
2. Click your profile icon in the top right corner.
3. Click User Settings from the menu when it appears.
4. Select the Notifications tab at the top of the User Settings page.
5. Toggle off the notifications you don’t want to receive on the page and click the Community alerts option under the Alerts section.
6. Under the Community alerts section, click the down arrow and set the menu to the Off position to disable notifications from the community.

Disabling Reddit Notifications on Mobile and Desktop

Reddit notifications can fill your notification panel and distract you and your workflow. So, if you are tired of notifications constantly bugging you on your phone or computer, you can turn off or disable notifications using the above steps.

Even though you turn off notifications, you may still receive reminders about reenabling them. Turning off notifications from communities doesn’t stop the Reddit app from prompting you to turn on the notifications. Also, if you don’t want to disable all community notifications on Reddit, you can set them only to show the important ones you need.
