How to Use Bing Chat AI in Google Chrome
Bing Chat is no longer restricted to Microsoft Edge. If you want to start using Bing AI in Chrome, follow this guide.
Bing Chat is an incredibly powerful generative AI tool that you can use to have conversational interactions in the Bing search engine. Since its release, Bing Chat has only been available on the Microsoft Edge browser.
All that is changing, however. Bing Chat is gradually being rolled out on Chrome and Safari too. Some users already have access to Bing Chat in Chrome.
If you want to give the AI chatbot a try on your browser of choice, then here’s how to use Bing Chat AI on Chrome.
What is Bing Chat?
Bing Chat is Microsoft’s own AI chatbot that allows you to use natural language to interact with the Bing search engine.
Instead of typing a query and seeing a list of search results, you can ask Bing Chat questions and get conversational answers that (should) contain the information you’re seeking. You can go back and forth with the AI, asking for more information, or clarifying your query, although there is a limit as we’ll see later.
Bing Chat runs on GPT-4 from OpenAI, which is the same model behind ChatGPT Plus, the paid version of ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is the natural language processing tool that shot generative AI into the public consciousness in late 2022, but Bing Chat removes a few of the hurdles you need to jump through to access ChatGPT. It’s also completely free to use.
What Can You Do With Bing Chat?
If you’ve never tried ChatGPT or similar tools before, you’ll be amazed by what you can do with Bing Chat.
If you just want to find information, you can ask a question. Instead of traditional search results, however, you’ll get a written response that contains your information and sources for that information that you can follow.
What makes Bing Chat much more powerful as a search tool is that you can use it to refine your query by asking follow-up questions, which Bing Chat will understand in the context of your previous query.
What is truly mind-blowing, however, is using Bing Chat to create things.
You can ask it to write you a story based on prompts that you give it. You can make it write an essay based on a title. You can even create a limerick based on the first line. The results are usually incredibly impressive.
You can also use Bing Chat to create images. Want to see a picture of a unicorn in a suit? Ask Bing Chat, and it will generate one for you.
Is Bing Chat on Chrome the Same as on Edge?
Bing Chat on Google Chrome has most of the same features as it does on Edge. You can ask the same types of questions, and you’ll receive the same types of responses.
There are a couple of significant differences, however.
At the time of writing, there is a limit of five prompts in the same conversation before you have to reset and start a new conversation. This is because longer conversations can confuse generative AI and can even result in some dubious responses.
In Edge, however, you can have up to 10 prompts before you need to start again. In both browsers, signing in with a Microsoft account will increase the number of prompts you can use.
If you’re using Chrome (and Safari), then your queries have a limit of 2,000 characters. If you use Bing Chat in Microsoft Edge, however, you’ll have a limit of up to 4,000 characters when you’re using the ‘More Creative’ or ‘More Precise’ options.
For simple queries, this won’t be a big issue. For complex prompts, such as asking Bing Chat to write code for a specific purpose, you may find yourself running up against that character limit on Chrome.

Can’t Access Bing Chat on Chrome?
Bing Chat is being rolled out in Safari and Chrome and, at the time of publication, it isn’t available to all users.
If you’re unable to get past the prompts telling you to install Edge, then you don’t have access to Bing Chat on Chrome—yet. You can either wait until the feature unlocks for you or you can switch to Microsoft Edge, where you can use Bing Chat immediately.
You may also find, as we did, that your access to Bing Chat is intermittent. It might be possible to access Bing Chat in Chrome one day, but not the next. It’s likely these issues will be ironed out over time, and you will soon be able to use Bing Chat on Chrome without any issues.
Using Bing AI in Chrome
Learning how to use Bing Chat AI in Chrome allows you to enjoy the impressive generative AI tool without needing to install a different browser. There are some limitations, and you may not be able to access Bing Chat on Chrome yet, but once you can, the tool is impressively powerful.
There’s plenty more you can learn about Bing Chat. You can learn how to clear your Bing Chat search history so that no one knows that you didn’t make up that limerick you’ve been dining out on. You can learn how to disable Bing Chat AI in Windows 11 Search if you’d rather not use it.
And if you’re worried that AI is going to become self-aware and make us all its slaves, then you can remove the Bing Chat button from Microsoft Edge.
