How to Cancel a Zoom Subscription
Zoom subscriptions offer you additional features, but the free tier might be all you need. Learn how to cancel a paid Zoom subscription here.
Zoom is a free and popular video conferencing app, but the free tier has a limit of 40 minutes per call. You’ll need a paid subscription to bypass this limit.
If you find you no longer use Zoom as much, you might be reconsidering your Zoom subscription. If you decide that you don’t need your paid account anymore, keep reading to learn how to cancel a Zoom subscription.
What Do Zoom Subscriptions Offer?
There are four tiers of the main Zoom service. Each tier adds extra functionality or options.
Basic
This is the free tier that does not require a subscription. Benefits include:
- Meetings with up to 100 participants
- Meetings up to 40 minutes in length
- Chat channels with file-sharing capabilities
Pro
The next tier is Pro. One of the key benefits is that Pro removes the limit on meeting duration. Benefits include:
- Meetings with up to 100 participants
- Unlimited meeting lengths
- 5GB of cloud recording storage
Business
If you’re looking to use Zoom for business, then 100 participants may not meet your needs. That’s where the Business tier comes in. Benefits include:
- Meetings with up to 300 participants
- Unlimited meeting lengths
- 5GB of cloud recording storage
- Company branding
Business Plus
The most expensive standard tier is Business Plus. Benefits include:
- Meetings with up to 300 participants
- Unlimited meeting lengths
- 10GB of cloud recording storage
- Translated automatic captions
- Company branding
- Unlimited regional Zoom phone calls
Enterprise
If you need even more from Zoom, you can contact sales to discuss signing up to the Enterprise tier. Benefits include:
- Meetings with up to 1,000 participants
- Unlimited meeting lengths
- Unlimited cloud recording storage
- Translated automatic captions
- Company branding
- Full-featured PBX phone system
Before You Cancel Your Zoom Subscription
As mentioned above, some Zoom subscriptions allow you to record Zoom meetings. These recordings can be saved locally or stored on Zoom’s servers. When you cancel your Zoom subscription, you’ll lose access to any recordings saved in the cloud.
Before you cancel, you should download any Zoom recordings that you want to keep.
To download a Zoom recording:
- Visit zoom.us/signin in your web browser and sign in to your account.
- In the left-hand menu, click on Recordings.
- In the Cloud Recordings tab, click the three dots icon for a recording you want to download.
- Select Download.
- Repeat these steps for each recording you want to download. Once your recordings have been downloaded, you can move on to canceling your subscription.
How to Cancel a Zoom Subscription
If you’re sure that you no longer want the additional features that come with your Zoom subscription, then you can cancel that subscription within the Zoom app or web portal.
To cancel a Zoom subscription:
- Go to zoom.us/signin in your web browser and sign in to your account.
- In the left-hand menu, scroll down to the Admin section and click Account Management.
- Select Billing.
- Under Current Plans, find the subscription you want to cancel and click Cancel Plan.
- Confirm your decision by clicking Cancel Subscription.
- Provide the reason for your cancellation. If you don’t want to give a reason, click No, Thanks.
- Your plan status will now show as Canceled under your Current Plans.
How to Delete Your Zoom Account
Once you’ve canceled your subscription, you can also choose to delete your Zoom account completely.
This option is open to any Zoom user without a paid subscription.
To delete your Zoom account:
- Go to zoom.us/signin in your web browser and sign in.
- Scroll down to the Admin section and click Account Management in the left-hand menu.
- Select Account Profile.
- On the Account Profile page, click Terminate My Account.
- You may be asked to enter a code sent to your registered email address to confirm the confirmation. When the code arrives, enter it in the box, and click Send Code.
- Check your email and enter the code in the Enter Code box, then click Continue to terminate your account.
Alternatives to Zoom
If you decide to cancel a Zoom subscription you can still use the free version of Zoom, which is often more than enough for casual users. If you’ve had enough of Zoom, however, then there are plenty of alternatives out there.
You could use Google Meet for online video meetings or set up a group video call on Google Duo. Slack also comes with built-in video conferencing, but you can use WhatsApp for video calls, too.
If you’re an Apple user, you can also use FaceTime on your iPhone or Mac for group video calls. It’s even possible to FaceTime with Android and Windows users.
